Square Up
I'm working on charm quilts, and I love love love them.
Take 1 charm pack, some border fabric, 1/4 of a full size warm and natural packaged batting, 1 yard for the back, and you've got an adorable crib quilt.
They're quick. They're cute. They're fun.
There's something deceptive in them though. The charms are precut 5" squares, but I never trust them.

I have a handy dandy 5 inch square ruler and I inspect each and every one of those 42 squares before I begin...

See that? That's close. But while "close enough is good enough" works for your artistic vision or free motion quilting, it doesn't work for your piecing. That little overage makes for mighty pesky piecing.

It's tedious, and it makes a mighty mess, but its worth it for seams that nest and corners that point and quilts that come out to size and square.
Can't wait to show you this one when it's done, but for now, I've got 2/3 of a charm pack left to whittle the edges from, and I won't subject you to that.
